Booked your first Margaret River wine tour and not sure what to expect? Relax — you’re about to discover one of the world’s most rewarding wine regions, and you don’t need to be an expert to love it.

You Don’t Need to Be a Wine Buff

The best tours are designed for everyone, from curious beginners to seasoned collectors. A good local guide explains what you’re tasting in plain, friendly language — no snobbery, just genuine enthusiasm. You’ll pick up the basics of Cabernet, Chardonnay and SSB without even trying.

How Wine Tastings Actually Work

At each cellar door you’ll sample a flight of several wines, usually starting with lighter whites and building to fuller reds. You’re welcome to sip and tip (there’s no obligation to finish every pour), ask questions, and buy any favourites to take home. Tastings are relaxed and unhurried on a small-group tour.

Pace Yourself

With six wineries plus cheese, caves and wildflowers on our tour, there’s a lot to enjoy. Drink water between tastings, eat well at the long lunch, and you’ll feel great all day. There’s no rush and no pressure.

The Beauty Beyond the Glass

Margaret River isn’t only wine. Expect ancient limestone caves, the towering Boranup karri forest, wildflowers in spring, artisan cheese and chocolate, and the dramatic coastline of Cape Leeuwin and Busselton Jetty. It’s a feast for all the senses — see our guide to food, caves and coast.

A Few Simple Tastings Tips

You don’t need special knowledge, but a few habits help you enjoy the day. Look at the wine’s colour, give it a swirl and a sniff before you sip, and don’t be shy about using the spittoon — it’s normal, not rude. If you love something, buy a bottle; if a style isn’t for you, just move on. Ask the cellar-door staff questions too, as they love sharing the story behind each wine.

What to Bring

Pack comfortable shoes, layers for the changeable maritime weather, sunscreen and a little space in your bag for the bottles you’ll buy. A light jumper is handy for cool caves even in summer. Our packing guide covers the details.

Experience it yourself on our signature tour. Our small-group 3-day Margaret River wine tour from Perth includes six wineries, cave and wildflower tours, cheese tastings, meals and accommodation — all from just $850 per person. Call 1300 456 788 or enquire online to book today.
