Summer (December–February)
Warm, sunny days in the mid-20s to low-30s, cooled by reliable afternoon sea breezes. It’s perfect for combining wine with beach time and long lunches among the vines, and the coastline around Yallingup is at its best.
Autumn (March–May)
Mild and settled, with vintage in full swing. It’s a magical time as the wineries buzz with harvest, the vine leaves turn gold and red, and the crowds thin. Whale season also begins in May along the coast. Warm days and cool nights make autumn many locals’ favourite time to tour.
Winter (June–August)
Cooler days around 14–18°C bring lush green forests, flowing creeks and dramatic surf. Cosy cellar doors, open fires and rich reds like Cabernet make winter a quiet favourite — and caves such as Lake and Mammoth are a cool-weather delight year-round.
Spring (September–November)

Whale Season Along the Coast
From roughly May to December, humpback and southern right whales migrate along the South West coast, often visible from headlands near Cape Leeuwin and Busselton. If seeing whales is on your list, aim for the middle of that window — it overlaps beautifully with both winter reds and spring wildflowers.

School holidays, Easter and the summer break bring more visitors, so cellar doors and accommodation fill early — book ahead if you’re travelling then. Shoulder seasons in autumn and late spring often hit the sweet spot: fine weather, fewer crowds and a relaxed feel at the cellar doors.
